Better than carbon neutral, we are carbon negative!

You probably think that a company that ships parcels by air daily is far from eco-friendly.
And you would be right.

You might even be hesitant about purchasing products from overseas.
And that would be a wise decision. At least most of the time.

But not when you purchase from NISHOHI.

What if we told you that it is better to buy from us than from 99% of any domestic seller?
What if we told you that you make the planet a little bit better every time you purchase something from us?

Wondering how that is possible?
Yes, you guessed it. We are Carbon Negative!

What does "Carbon Negative" even mean?

Any person, company, or organization produces a carbon footprint. Almost all the time. It doesn't matter how hard you try not to. Even when you drive your electric car or ride on your bicycle, you leave a carbon footprint.

Luckily, if you care - and we do - there is a solution. It's called carbon offset. In a nutshell, you calculate how much carbon you produce per day/month/year, and you buy carbon credits to offset it.

Basically, you invest in projects that help reduce CO2 levels. As a result, the more carbon credits you buy, the more you reduce (offset) your carbon footprint. If you purchase as many tons equivalent of carbon credit as you produce, you are carbon neutral. If you buy MORE credits than you produce, you become carbon NEGATIVE.

And that's what we do.

NISHOHI is proud to be carbon negative

How do we do it?

Knowing your exact carbon footprint is a very complicated, time-consuming, and expensive process. Since we cannot afford it, we took a different approach and decided to spend more money buying carbon credits rather than paying an expensive audit company. We have estimated as closely as possible what our carbon footprint is, based on many tools and calculators available. Then we rounded it up. And to be on the safe side, we doubled it. Then we went on to look for a great and meaningful project, and we invested in it the equivalent of that quantity. That's why we can be sure that even if we didn't get our calculation exactly right, we're still way above what we produce.

As a result, every day that we do business, every order we receive, and every parcel we send will offset more carbon than we produce.

So, the more you buy from NISHOHI, the better it is for the planet. It's as simple as that.

What is the project we've invested in?

This year, we have chosen to contribute to a great project called the "Katingan Peatland Restoration And Conservation Project" in Indonesia.

"The Katingan Project" protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystems and offers local communities sustainable sources of income. Both these initiatives tackle global climate change.

The project lies within the districts of Katingan and Kotawaringin Timur in Central Kalimantan Province and covers one of the largest remaining intact peat swamp forests in Indonesia. This project has been certified by Verra, VCS, and is CCB Triple Gold, so we are sure it's good, and they will use our money well.

You can find more details below. And while you’re checking these out, consider participating in the initiative as well:

What else do we do?

If that wasn't enough, we also participate in the DHL GoGreen service, which offsets the carbon footprint of every parcel sent by DHL. So if you choose DHL as your carrier, the carbon footprint will be offset twice: once by DHL and once by us. How awesome does that sound?

You can find more about the DHL GoGreen system here:

Anything else?

Sure. We try to be eco-conscious at the workplace. Here are a few examples of the small things we do to reduce carbon emissions:

  • We reuse our cardboard boxes since most products arrive in boxes that are in perfect condition.
  • We use recycled plastic wrapping, tape, bags, craft paper whenever available. For example, you might see your products protected in a blueish bubble sheet. That is made of recycled plastic.
  • All DHL and FedEx plastic pouches are made of recycled plastics too.
  • We only print on recycled paper and use recycled ink cartridges in our printers.

  • Together, let's commit

We can all make a difference to fight global warming and the many environmental challenges that our planet is facing. At NISHOHI, we are committed to doing our share. Together, let's take care of Mother Earth and ensure a safe future for our children and the next generations.
